Discover the wonders of Taman Negara National Park, one of the world’s oldest rainforests, where you’ll join conservation efforts to protect the endangered Malayan tiger. Then, continue north to Penang Island, where the island’s heritage and artistry unfold through curated cultural experiences. Along the way, luxuriate in the train’s timeless elegance—where every moment is tailored, and every detail tells a story.
Step aboard the legendary Eastern & Oriental Express at Woodlands Station, Singapore, and enter a world of timeless elegance. Dressed in signature green and cream, the train promises an unforgettable journey into the wild heart of Malaysia.
Settle into your beautifully appointed cabin as the train glides northward, weaving through emerald jungles and rural vistas. Enjoy afternoon tea in the comfort of your private retreat, watching as scenes of tropical beauty unfold just beyond your window.
As evening descends, make your way to the Dining Car for a refined dinner crafted with regional flair. Linger over each course as the rhythm of the rails sets the tone for the days ahead. Afterwards, unwind with onboard entertainment or a nightcap in the Piano Bar Car, where conversation and music mingle into the night.
This morning, enjoy your breakfast and admire the views of the Jungle Railway as the train courses through some of the wildest parts of Malaysia. After lunch, you arrive at Merapoh station and alight for some extraordinary experiences in Taman Negara National Park—formed 130 million years ago, it’s one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world.
The dense jungle, wide rivers and lush mountains are home to wildlife ranging from water buffalo to macaques, tapirs, and hornbills to the Malayan tiger—a true explorer’s paradise. From here, choose among a wide variety of excursions: venture into the forest to explore the habitat of the critically endangered Malayan tiger (sightings not expected) and meet local activists striving to safeguard its future. Or, join a nature photographer and conservationist for a wild and wonderful immersion, hearing the chant of gibbons as you learn to focus in on the jungle’s beguiling details. Alternatively, discover the otherworldly allure of the magnificent caves of the region, gliding from one to another by e-bicycle. Or, finally, enjoy a sublime wellness experience, including sunrise yoga, forest bathing and sound meditation.
Return to the train in time for lunch, then enjoy the rest of the afternoon on board before dinner.
Choose your own Penang experience:
- Art & Architecture by Vespa – Ride through George Town’s historic streets, admiring colonial buildings and meeting local artists in their studios.
- Peranakan Culinary Journey – Explore local markets, then join a hands-on class to cook flavourful Nyonya dishes—a fusion of Chinese and Malay heritage.
- Trishaw Discovery Tour – Take it slow with a personal trishaw ride, exploring George Town’s shops, street art, and colonial gems at your own pace.
Return to the train for lunch and relax onboard, perhaps with a treatment at the Dior Spa as the train winds through the Malaysian countryside. Later, enjoy a short stop in Ipoh before gathering for a final night of fine dining, live entertainment, and heartfelt farewells in the Piano Bar Car.
Linger over a final breakfast in the Dining Car as the train glides through the verdant landscapes of Johor, Malaysia’s southernmost state. Watch as the scenery slowly shifts, giving way to the bustle of the border.
Soon, the Eastern & Oriental Express crosses the strait and returns to Singapore, where your Wild Malaysia journey comes to a close—leaving you with treasured memories of jungle adventures, cultural encounters, and the timeless romance of rail travel.
