ITINERARY
Lijiang, Yunnan to Shangri-La, Yunnan | 5 resorts
Nestled between the Yangtze, Mekong, and Salween rivers, Yunnan’s Three Parallel Rivers region is a land of dramatic beauty—towering snow peaks, glacial gorges, and terraced fields shaped by centuries of harmony with nature. Home to a rich tapestry of ethnic cultures, this mythical "Shangri-La" remains remarkably untouched.
Upon arrival at Lijiang Sanyi International Airport, enjoy a seamless transfer to your hotel. In the evening, indulge in a warm welcome dinner to begin your journey in refined style.
After breakfast, take a 20-minute drive to Dayan Ancient Town and enjoy a walk inspired by Peter Goullart’s Forgotten Kingdom, exploring its Tea Horse Road heritage and ending at Zhongyi Market, where you can experience the daily life of the Naxi people. Lunch will be served at Songtsam Lodge Lijiang.
In the afternoon, continue with a 1.5-hour drive to Tiger Leaping Gorge for a scenic hike along one of the world’s top trails, following the beautiful and moderate route from Chama Guesthouse to Zhongtu Inn, with options to extend based on your preference. Return for dinner at Songtsam Lodge Lijiang.
After breakfast, depart on a 4-hour drive to Tacheng, passing the First Bend of the Yangtze River and stopping at Shigu Village along the way. Upon arrival, check in and enjoy lunch at Songtsam Lodge Tacheng. Spend the afternoon relaxing while taking in the scenic rice fields, blooming flower fields, and the charm of the surrounding ancient village.
Later, take a short 15-minute walk to Hada Village, where you will visit a local family and learn how to make traditional soy milk and tofu in their courtyard. Dinner will be served at the lodge.
Begin the day with a 30-minute drive to Yunnan Golden Monkey National Park after breakfast, where you will hike through the reserve in search of the elusive golden monkeys in their natural habitat. After lunch at Songtsam Lodge Tacheng, set out on a scenic 4-hour drive to Cizhong.
Upon arrival at Songtsam Lodge Cizhong, unwind before an exceptional evening dining experience featuring a 5-course fusion menu that combines Western techniques with Yunnan ingredients. Each course is paired with wines from Shangri-La, from sparkling to red and ice wine, offering a refined journey through the region’s diverse terroirs.
After breakfast, take a 40-minute drive to Songtsam Rizui Vineyard, where you will explore the region’s winemaking heritage introduced by French missionaries in 1898. Accompanied by a guide, tour the vineyard and learn about Songtsam’s biodynamic farming methods and the deep connection between nature, local communities, and the land. Return to Songtsam Lodge Cizhong for lunch.
In the afternoon, continue your wine journey at the Cizhong Wine Experience Center, where a tasting reveals the unique terroir of Shangri-La and the stories behind each blend. Later, take a short 15-minute walk to the century-old Cizhong Catholic Church, located along the historic Tea Horse Road and known for its harmonious blend of cultures and religions. Dinner will be served at Songtsam Lodge Cizhong.
After breakfast, depart on a 1.5-hour drive to Meili and check in at Songtsam Lodge Meili, where you can rest and gradually acclimatize to the altitude. After lunch at the lodge, join a guided light hike on the back mountain, a pristine forested area that serves as the water source for Deqin County and is known for its rich vegetation and seasonal wild mushrooms such as matsutake, boletus, and chanterelles.
In the afternoon, explore the surrounding village and take a short walk to visit a local family, where you will learn how to print traditional Tibetan prayer flags. Return to the lodge for dinner.
Start the day early with the chance to witness the “Snow Mountain of Sunshine,” as the first light illuminates Mt. Kawagebo, weather permitting. After breakfast, take a 30-minute drive to Feilaisi Temple to join a traditional Sang offering facing the Meili Snow Mountains, where you can hang the Tibetan prayer flags made the day before for blessings. Continue with a 2-hour drive to Benzilan, stopping at Dongzhulin Monastery and the scenic Moon Bay of the Jinsha River along the way.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest (seasonal) before heading to Niding Forest for a gentle hike through pristine woodland and a peaceful village setting. Later, drive 2 hours to Shangri-La, stopping at Napa Lake, a haven for wildlife and grazing lands, before concluding the day with dinner at Songtsam Linka Shangri-La.
After breakfast, take a short 10–15 minute walk to Songzanlin Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan, often referred to as the “Little Potala Palace.” Return to Songtsam Linka Shangri-La for lunch.
In the afternoon, choose between two activities based on your preference: enjoy a horse-riding and archery experience on the grasslands with professional guidance, or take a leisurely city walk through Dukezong Ancient Town, a historic Tea Horse Road hub known for its well-preserved Tibetan architecture, where you can relax with afternoon tea while learning about local culture from your guide. Dinner will be served at Songtsam Linka Shangri-La.
Enjoy a smooth transfer to Diqing Shangri-La Airport, bringing your extraordinary journey through Yunnan and to a graceful close.
